Today is Sunday, November 15th. Now that we have our medical exams behind us we have a few days to sight see and relax before our next important appointment at the U.S. consulate. Today Zhou decided to take us to the Folk Arts Museum. Instead of using a bus to transport us (like on our other visits here) he decided that it would be "fun" to experience the subway system in Guangzhou (fun for who???). Guangzhou has a population of 15 million and many people rely on the subway as their main transportation.
Meeting Uncle Zhou in the lobby.
Mo-She and Grayson ready to go!
These are many apartment buildings we pass on the way to the subway!
Uncle Zhou and Shu Shu buying our tokens. It only costs 2 Yuan or 30 cents/American to ride the subway . . . .best deal in China! Way cheaper than a private bus!
It was quite an adventure but good experience for all!
The Folk Art Museum was only about a 15 minute walk from the subway. It is our third time visiting here but we still love coming and are looking forward to seeing all the artists again! Since the girls were too young to remember visiting here it will be a nice educational experience for them.
The Guangdong Folk Arts Museum was established in 1959. The museum is ranked second in the nation by the state administration of Cultural Heritage. The mission of the museum is to collect, preserve, and display folk arts and traditional crafts from Guangdong Province and other parts of China. Our first stop in the museum was to participate in a tea ceremony. Since Shu Shu loves any kind of Chinese tea it was perfect for her!
The different kinds of teas we tried.
Many teas and beautiful tea sets for sale.
After the tea ceremony we explored the museum and shops. We could spend all day here but unfortunately only had a few hours! Here is a small sample of what we saw.
Carving Obsidian stone.
Artist painting with his hand and fingers.
These bottles are hand painted on the inside thru the opening on top
by very skilled artists!
Looking through the gift shops is always fun!
The Chinese invented the Abacus. It has been called by some Western writers
"the earliest calculating machine in the world"!
Found something Mo-She loves to do . . . . puzzles!
We always love looking at these Bonsai trees.

Sunday was a great day for all! Good Night from China!

Everyone enjoyed the museum and were all thankful we were able to visit. On the way back to our hotel we stopped at a children's store that was in a shopping mall above the subway station to purchase a few things for the boys. Ken found the item below and thought it was so funny . . . . he wanted to buy one but didn't know how we could get it home. Can you guess what it is?

What a fun day! The weather looks great. Tasting teas was probably very relaxing. I'm sure Shu and Jie are enjoying all they are seeing and doing. Those bottles were so pretty. How could someone paint those from the inside! Wow! And of course, Mo-She's smile in the last picture. I'd smile too - those are funny looking! Love, Aunt Laura
