Day 10- Shamian Island Continued

After a short rest in our room we decided to take a walk around the Island.  Shamian Island was established as a settlement in 1861 by Britain and France.  They leased the land so they could use it for trading with the Chinese.  In 1946, the Chinese government formally took back Shamian.  They have maintained its original architecture and continue to preserve its buildings.  It is still as beautiful as we remembered.   It is a very popular tourist area for people from all over the world.  It is Saturday today and the island is very crowded.  I actually never remember this many people being here.  Zhou says the Chinese have a lot more money for spending now and many come to the island for vacations. Hopefully later in the week it won't be so congested.

Our first stop after buying a stroller for Mo-She is a little shop with a artist that carves Chinese Chop Stamps.  We did not purchase these for the girls during our last two visits so wanted to make sure we got them this time.

We didn't order one for Mo-She yet because we are not sure what name we want on it?

Just another cute picture of our little guy!

It's great having two big sisters here!  Wish we had Mo-She's big brother Drew here too!  It would be great to have our whole family together for this part of the trip!

There are people everywhere getting their picture taken.  A very popular thing to do on the island.  A lot of couples come to the island for wedding pictures.

There are many groups of people doing Tai Chi and dancing in the park.

We stopped in a couple of shops on our way back to the room and I was able to find some shirts that fit Mo-She.  Now he won't have to wear clothes that are way too big for him!  He has been so happy today, really enjoying walking around the island and taking in all the sights.  We ended our day at our favorite restaurant on the island named "Lucy's".  It has American entrees on the menu and we were all looking forward to a taste of home!

It's been a long day and Mo-She went right to sleep with all his favorite things . . . . . . an empty bottle added to the collection tonight!

Good Night from China!

  1. Good Morning from Oklahoma! It's 7am here and you guys are winding your Monday down - 9 pm there! I love those chop stamps. Those are really neat for Shu and Jie to have. Looks like it was a great day for a stroll through a nice park, and Mo-She still looking as happy as ever! I wonder what they had for the American entrees? My guess is hamburgers and chicken tenders. From living overseas it is funny sometimes what their restaurants offer as American cuisine! Love to all, Aunt Laura
